Does money guarantee you quality?I don't think so, definitely not.I can't justify spending thirty or forty euro on a cream that I mightn't even like.My philosophy is that if you spend under €10 on an item you won't be disapointed if its not as good as the packaging promises and if it is good you will be ten times more happier because you got a bargain in the process. So that is why I wanted to talk about my cheap as chips skincare routine.
There are six stages in my night/morning skincare routine:cleanse/makeup removal, face wash, treatment gel, moisturizer, spot wand and finally face mask (only 3 times a week)I will have the links and prices to every product featured in this post at the bottom of the page as usual in case any of you want to check them out further and if there is any questions that I didnt answer in this post feel free to ask below and I will answer them.
1. Penneys own brand face wipes - €1.50 (They come in a twin pack so you get 2 packs for 1.50)
I generally amn't a fan of face wipes but at €1.50 who could refuse?I use these wipes just to remove my eye makeup at night and I must say there is nothing cheap about these guys. All I have to do is quickly swipe one of these over my eyes and instantly all the makeup comes off.I did try these to take off my face makeup as well but I found them extremely drying so I tend to stick to using them to remove my eye makeup. If you ever find yourself in penneys in the near future I would 100% reccomend picking up a pack.
2.Boots tea tree and witch hazel cleanser/toner - €4.49
The next thing I use is this boots tea and witch hazel cleanser/toner which I purchased for €4.49 but I think there is a sale on this product at the moment in boots which means you could get it at an even better price.Wow! I don't know what to really say about this product except that it does the job and its amazing.I only recently found out that tea tree is a miracle cure to spots and to be perfectly honest I completely agree. Not only does this remove every trace of makeup I have left at the end of the day but it also clears up any spots with the help of my other tea tree products which I will be talking about further down in this post.Definitely a must-have and as you can see I'm already halfway through this bottle.
3.Garnier pure active intensive deep pore unclogging gel wash (I can't find this listed anywhere as I've had it for a while but I think it might be around €5.00)
To be honest for probably about a year I was convinced this product was nothing special and I ended up shoving it to the back of my drawers until I eventually rediscovered it a couple months later.I still think this product isn't brilliant but I do think that it does help to unblock my pores and brighten up my skin.I usually use about one pump of this gel wash and spread it all over my face and then wash it off with water after about a minute.I must admit this is probably the part I most enjoy out of my whole skincare routine and sometimes if I'm being super lazy I will only use this before I go to bed.I don't think I would recommend this product because there is
definitely better out there but if you're just looking for a really refreshing facial wash I guess this would be ok.
4.Boots tea tree and witch hazel night treatment gel -€4.29
This is another product from the boots tea tree and witch hazel range and I must say this is just as amazing as the cleanser.Basically this gel is supposed to get rid of spots and clear skin while you sleep.I maybe wouldnt go as far to say as it gets rid of spots but it does reduce them and when I wake up in the morning after I have applied this I do notice a visible difference.I don't use this everyday as it takes quite a bit to dry and I find that once I have this on I can't really apply anything else so I will usually only use this if I have a breakout or I don't feel my skin is as good as it could be.This product in my opinion can definitely be used in more than one way as its also leaves my skin super soft and just as refreshed as any face mask would.
5.Boots tea tree and witch hazel spot wand-€4.89
This is probably the only product in my skincare routine that I feel should cost less as although the formula is again brilliant you dont really get a lot of product for what you're paying compared to the other products in this range.Basically there is two ends to this spot "wand" a day and a night end.The day end is a clear gel so you can apply it over your makeup during the day whereas the night end is a more thick consistency.Personally I use this product after the night treatment gel so I can go over any areas I feel I might have missed previously.I also will throw this into whatever handbag I am using so that if I have a spot I can apply this throughout the day while I'm out.
6.Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion -€7.89
I actually seen this product in a magazine where they were doing a whole feature on moisturising and dry skin and immediately I knew I had to have it.This moisturizer is fragrance free and is made from really natural ingredients which is great for anybody who has sensitive skin.I don't really have too much to say about this because the word moisturizer kinda does all of the explaining for itself.Bottom line is its super hydrating and leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft.
7.Neutrogena visibly clear 2-in-1 wash and mask -€4.49
My last item is this neutrogena 2-in-1 wash and mask.I actually only use the mask part of this product because I find the wash to be too thick and I actually rather a gel consistency because I find its easier to wash off.I only use this mask maybe once a week sometimes twice and I don't really have much to say about it.It's ok I mean its definitely not brilliant but my face feels somewhat refreshed and clean after I take this off so I think it probably does do something which is the only reason I have kept it in my skincare routine. However I wouldn't recommend buying this and definitely once I have used this up I am going to purchase the face mask from the boots tea tree range as I definitely think that brand is more suited to my skin than neutrogena is.
So there it is my first skincare routine!Hope you all liked it and make sure to leave a comment below of the items in your skincare routine.I won't be posting again for a couple of days but make sure to check out my twitter @gemintherocks to get updates and information about future blog posts.
